The commercial faujasite Y series of Zeolyst International (nine Y zeolites) was tested in the catalytic cracking of 1,3,5-Triisopropylbenzene (TIPB) in a continuous-flow fixed-bed catalytic reactor. Zeolites were characterized by textural properties, Brønsted acidity, DRX, and TEM. TIPB cracking reaction differentiates zeolites by mesoporosity and acidity, but the information lies in the deactivation behavior. Criteria like initial activity or the activity at a specific time are not enough for correctly ranking the catalysts; neither is the selectivity to benzene. CBV720, CBV780, and CBV712 zeolites lead the ranking depending on the criteria used for the classification. Results show that the TOF is the best way to classify catalysts for short-term catalyst applications. For long-term uses, better results are given by TON.
