UNIPEP is a strategic unit within the National Police, created before the signing of the Peace Agreement between the national Government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia -People's Army (FARC-EP), to take on some of the challenges arising of this agreement. Given the absence of studies associated with the impact of UNIPEP on the peacebuilding process in the country, the general objective of this document revolves around analyzing the organizational model of UNIPEP, which seeks to respond to the responsibilities of implementation of the peace agreement. The methodology used throughout the research includes a document review exercise and in-depth semi-structured interviews. Likewise, a SWOT matrix is prepared and life histories of active UNIPEP officials are documented. The work starts by conducting a theoretical and conceptual discussion on the challenges of the police institution in a construction scenario, and synthesizes the different organizational models of the police found in the specialized literature. Then, based on these parameters, the creation of UNIPEP is associated with one of those police models, where it is found that the evolution of the unit follows the guidelines of a community organizational model. Finally, it delves into some of the main organizational characteristics of the unit and its development, by including a view from the inside of it, through the collection of life stories of some of its members.
