A proposed solution to finish the Colombian armed conflict was recently subjected to a plebiscite. Colombians had to support or reject the idea of ceasing the fire and mutual hostilities between the government and guerrilla group “FARC-EP”, along with other socio-economic reforms. Given a 62.57% of abstention, the solution was rejected by only 18.44% of the electorate. The contribution of this work is the development of a methodological approach that shows how nations’ peace agreements can be linguistically analyzed as political products. Our approach illustrates with sufficient computationaldetail a text mining method to scrutinize the Colombian signed peace agreement and compare its ease of comprehension by the ordinary citizen with other Latin American peace deals. The results of our approach, based on the readability SMOG formula, showed that the linguistic features of these accords were beyond the schooling years of the general audience. The implications of our perspective and its applications to political communication purposes are finally discussed.
