The proliferation of international organisations can be attributed to the intense effects of globalisation in international relations. This is historically seen in the increased rate of treaty ratifications amongst states globally and increased rate of interconnectedness and interdependence amongst states due to the extensive effects of globalisation. Both of which indicates how international relations has induced institutionalisation. There are three main types of international organisations according to the Union of International Associations; Intergovernmental organisation (IGOs), International non-governmental organisation and Transnational Corporations.
