This book is the first volume resulting from the research of the agreement between Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia and icetex, in commemoration of the 70 years of experience of the latter institution. This volume aims to promote, from a theoretical perspective and data interpretation, a contextualized reading of education credit in Colombia based on the characterization of icetex and its relationship with educational and social policies in Colombia, as well as a critical reflection on the challenges and demands involved in access to education credit in conditions of social inequality, job insecurity, and socioeconomic vulnerability in Colombia. This book is composed of eight chapters that reflect on the attitudes, challenges, and conceptions regarding education credit in Colombia; the impact of debt on the mental health of beneficiaries; the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the services offered by icetex, as well as its history and the jurisprudence emanating from its institutional history. It is from a multidisciplinary perspective, in which areas such as history, law, psychology, economics, administration, and educational sciences converge, that a new line of studies on education credit in Colombia is inaugurated. The promotion of higher education and its impact on the quality of life of its users — the ultimate goal of the policies of access, inclusion, and permanence of social actors in the education system in Colombia — are studied and valued.
