In this paper, we present KIOSOL ("KIOsco SO-Lar"), a small-scale photovoltaic (PV) micro-grid capable of handling problems of intermittency and supply. It is used as a living laboratory where students and people of the Fenicia neighbourhood in Bogotá (Colombia) can have access to the system for better understanding the micro-grid operation. KIOSOL supplies clean electrical energy to some loads of the site such as orchard pump, light spot and wooden hut. We describe the teaching methodology that will be implemented with the use of KIOSOL, including the activities planned and projects involved. We also show some research that was conducted using the laboratory.
