Inserting the Internal Migration and Forced Displacement in Colombia's Urban Labor Market (Inserción De La Migración Interna Y El Desplazamiento Forzado En El Mercado Laboral Urbano De Colombia)
The economic outcomes of the inception of both recent migrants and IDPs into the labor market of the main 10 urban areas of Colombia are analyzed using information from the Continuous Household Survey (ECH). We adapt the theoretical framework provided by Borjas (1982, 1985, 1987, 1990) to the case of both voluntary and forced internal migration, and through estimations of a Logit model of employment access and Mincerian equations, we sustain the positive selection process experienced by recent migrants and provide empirical evidence to the expected theoretical results regarding the labor inception of IDPs into the urban labor market, as they exhibit lower comparative probabilities of getting a job and bear a wage differential mostly explained by their migrant condition. All these provides support to the theoretical effect expected from an exogenous migration decision as suggested by Borjas (1987).
