The concept of internationalization at home is broad and, depending on the academic tradition and the place where it takes place, includes different elements. That is why this article has been structured in three fundamental parts: at the beginning, a review of the concept is made and also examines the evolution that internationalization at home (IaH) has achieved in recent years. It explores in a special way the trends followed in Europe, North America, Australia, Mexico and Colombia. It continues with a debate on the definition of internationalization at home, through a journey through the different analytical currents to later explore its manifestations. The article concludes with an analysis of an internationalization project at home carried out between the Autonomous University of Nuevo León in Mexico and the Universidad de la Costa Corporation in Colombia, where a set of recommendations will also be given that give a comprehensive vision of the aspects that a higher education policy should consider to ensure that a broader base of students and teachers can access the opportunities that are configured in a globalized world, and in the so-called knowledge society, through internationalization at home
