This article presents the regulatory and electricity market challenges for battery energy storage systems from the perspective of developed and developing countries. Also, good practices of leading countries and opportunities for developing countries are identified. Finally, it concludes with the global challenges, mechanisms, alliances, among other alternatives that would help speed up the development for storage projects at the global level.
