The purpose of this paper consisted of describing the main features, with which the receptive medical tourism is carried out in the city of Santa Marta, Colombia. To this end, a methodological design, based on a qualitative case study, was used. The information was collected through a structured observation process, and semi-structured interview application to patients/tourists, and, medical, and administrative staff, from five hospital facilities of the city. As main findings, place of origin, frequency and trip motivation, tourist services, and their promotion, are described in hospital facilities under analysis.
