The macroeconomic prospects of Colombia show an adequate performance in the short and long term; however, in light of the depletion of traditional productive factors, it is necessary to exploit the productive potential of the land in a sustainable manner. For this purpose, it is important to have instruments that allow for proper territorial management, such as the cadaster. In recent years, policy guidelines have established on the national agenda the importance of having a cadaster that is complete, updated and reliable, and consistent with the property registration system. To consolidate the implementation of the country’s cadastral policy, it is necessary to continue advancing on these three pillars: 1) decentralization; 2) adequate regulation; and 3) cadaster/registration integration. In this regard, there are some achievements that should serve as a reference point in the development of the country´s cadastral policy, such as the delegation of the cadastral function, the discussions about the relevant regulations in this matter and the results of the pilots carried out by the National Government.
