Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a wide range of conditions characterized by difficulties with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and non-verbal communication. In Brazil, there are no official data on the prevalence of disorder in the population. There are no guidelines on the use of psychopharmaceuticals in the treatment of ASD symptoms, despite being a useful therapeutic intervention to manage disabling behavioral and / or mental health symptoms in the autistic population, according to studies. it is presented as a bibliographic review with a descriptive, exploratory and qualitative approach, based on articles published in the database such as Scielo, CAPEs and LILACs selected during the month 04/2020 and analyzed and classified in the month 05/2020. The articles included in the research were published in the last ten years, in Portuguese and present in the thematic area of ​​health. Articles published more than ten years ago, in other languages, that did not fit the objectives of the work were excluded.
