Abstract This article approaches the two manuscripts of El desierto prodigioso y prodigio del desierto from their unfinished and incomplete condition, and the way their materiality reshape and deepen our understanding of aspects such as authorship, poetic authority, and visuality, which are central in the construction of the text as much as in the complexity of the colonial experience of the New Kingdom of Granada.
