Air pollution is a problem of great interest in public health since it explains about 4.2 million annual deaths in urban centers worldwide. For a better understanding of the relationship between air quality and health that encourages timely monitoring and intervention, environmental health surveillance systems have been established in different cities, which have particularities in terms of focus and level of health. the observation, the theoretical models that guide the gaze and the possibilities of action. This study systematized the environmental health monitoring experiences focused on the problem of air quality and health in cities of the Latin American and Caribbean region, for which a Mapping review was carried out in the main cities of each of the countries of the region. region. In total, 61 surveillance systems were analyzed throughout the region, where the monitoring of air pollutants predominates, without including health information, with 95.1% (n =3D 58). In the continent there is evidence of interest in understanding the impact of air quality on the health of the population, however, they fall short, when articulating the processes of environmental monitoring with the analysis of the situation in health. Monitoring of environmental health should be promoted as a tool for knowledge about the health status of populations and support for decision makers.
