Abstract:

Electrostatic precipitators (ESP) are highly efficient particulate matter emissions control devices. ESP use electrostatic force as the driving force to mobilize particles in flue gas towards collecting surfaces. These devices are among the most efficient to control fine particulate matter emissions from combustion processes; currently, are widely used in mining facilities, thermal powerplants, cement kilns, petroleum refining processes, etc. The design showed in this study corresponds to a laboratory scale ESP, with the main purpose to show students real life applications at the Atmospheric Laboratory of the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Bucaramanga, Colombia. It is also expected to become an innovative tool for research and teaching purposes.
