Background: COVID-19 is a new highly contagious and life-threatening disease worldwide. We aimed to demonstrate how we proceed with bronchoscopic procedures and precautions without no published guidelines yet at the initial of the pandemic. Materials and Methods: All bronchoscopic procedures applied from the first case seen in Turkey (March 11) through to May 15 were evaluated retrospectively. Patient data on gender, age, indications, diagnosis, types of procedures, results of COVID-19 tests were recorded. Results: 126 patients were included in the study; 36 were interventional bronchoscopic techniques (28.6%), 74 were endobronchial ultrasonography (EBUS) (58.7%), 16 were fiberoptic bronchoscopy (12.7%). All interventional rigid bronchoscopic techniques were performed for emergent indications: malignant airway obstruction (66.7%,) tracheal stenosis (25%), bronchopleural fistula (8.3%). While most of all procedures (67.5%) were performed for diagnostic, 19% were applied for treatment and 13.5% for staging. Malignancy was diagnosed with 59 (79.7%), 12 (50%), and 4 (25%) the patients who underwent EBUS, interventional procedure and FOB, respectively. All personnel was dressed with Personal Protective Equipment (N95 mask, eye protection, disposable gloves and gown, cap), and patients were dressed in a surgical mask, cap, and disposable gown. Thirty-one patients (24.6%) were tested for COVID-19 and all were negative. All patients were followed for fourteen days after the procedure, and no patient had COVID detected. Conclusion: This study based on our experiences demonstrated that EBUS and/or bronchoscopy should not be postponed in patients with known or suspected lung cancer, COVID-19 transmission can be prevented when sufficient and necessary precautions were taken.
