This paper investigates the characteristics of the Spanish phraseology as it is used in natural communicative situations. For this kind of analysis, it is necessary to have access to spontaneous, free spoken conversations.Since oral corpora of Spanish are not sufficiently reliable for the specific purposes of this research study, the source of the phraseological units (PhU) analysed in this research is Gran Hermano, the Spanish version of the reality show Big Brother. In this paper the results of an analysis of 120 minutes of conversations will be presented. The focus will be on the following research dimensions: a) Typology of the PhU documented in spontaneous conversational contexts.b) Their frequency in terms of types and occurrences.c) Their presence or absence in dictionaries, together with the stylistic registers associated to the PhU.
