The diffuse phase transition behavior in Eu-modified lead titanate ceramics has been corroborated by XRD analysis. The permanence, at 400 °C, of the tetragonal phase (c ≠ a) of Pb0.88Eu0.08Ti0.98Mn0.02O3 ceramic is in agreement with the observed smearing of the endothermic transition peak. This is due to the inhomogeneities in the defect concentration and internal microstresses induced by structural vacancies in these ferroelectric compositions.
