Abstract:

The current capitalist economic model has created and consolidated a social structure characterized by inequality in the access to goods and services of a large segment of the world's population and, particularly, the population of the Latin American countries. This situation is especially critical in Colombia, one of the most unequal countries in the world. This article presents the results obtained in the project "Sponsoring a house" carried out in the city of Girardot, in the center of Colombia. A city in which 20.09% of its inhabitants has Unsatisfied Basic Needs (UBN) in terms of housing quality, overcrowding and access to sanitary services. The project is championed by the academy with the premise that only through the social construction of knowledge it is possible to empower communities and consolidate them as active actors in the process of improving their own living conditions. This with the goal of contributing to the consolidation of an urban governance that builds city and country from the cooperative relationships between public and private actors.
