Summary: Objective. The composition of Bogota households is analyzed at different times in their life cycle, seeking to identify the support systems underlying these practices and the differences between the different groups according to the educational level of the head of the household. Methodology. Using the 2005 census data, households are reconstructed and their composition is analyzed, following a demographic approach. Results and conclusion. Differences are found in the types and compositions of the households that show socioeconomic contrasts. For all the groups studied, closeness increases with the passage of the life cycle of the home and is concentrated in the moments that require greater material support, which they solve in different ways: among the most educated, co-residence with parents and domestic workers stands out, while that in the least educated there is greater coexistence with grandchildren and sons-in-law who account for “nested” homes.
