Pediatric emergency care comprises important steps in the management of critical patients, and the presence of the family may or may not be considered.The objective was to analyze the perception of the multiprofessional health team who work in a pediatric emergency department, in a city in the state of Paraná, regarding the presence of the patient's family at the pediatric emergency room.The method was exploratory-descriptive, with a qualitative approach.Data were submitted to thematic content analysis.It was noted that the professionals were favorable to the family's permanence, which helps in the child's recovery, therefore providing safety and tranquility.Yet, they highlighted that family instability usually impairs the team's performance.It is recommended that hospital institutions provide permanent health education as a way of training professionals, and also reflections on the work process involved in welcoming the family, as to structure an internal protocol that standardizes actions.
