EnglishThis study analyzes digital empowerment from the perspective of four dimensions: accessibility, digital integration, employment management, and equity within key sectors of the Colombian society in the framework of the university-business relationship. It was a descriptive, non-experimental and transectional research. A sample of 29 representatives of micro, small, and medium businesses (MSMB) was surveyed. Results showed modest findings regarding accessibility, integration, employment management, and equity within MSMBs in the Department of La Guajira. The main conclusion is that their participation in digital empowerment is low and that they have failed in impacting both their employees and the surrounding population due to their interest in inner development and the little experience they have in information and communication technologies (ICT). A set of strategies is proposed so as to enhance and consolidate their action by means of ICT. Such strategies are addressed to the inner field and to their relationship with universities.
