The detection and fault clearing of short circuit contribution of inverter-based generation in distribution system is key for the protection of human life and equipment. Regulations are changing to adjust about it because this is an increasing issue in countries like Colombia. This work presents the analysis and recommendations about the measurement point for the detection and clearing of short circuit contributions of inverter-based generation connected to the distribution systems. EMTP/ATP simulations were performed to determine the challenges and recommendations of the measurement point and the protection schemes with the focus of properly fault clearing, considering not only faults in the elements of the point of interconnection, but also to provide backup protection for faults in the distribution system.
