<p>This article seeks to analyze the importance that the strategic natural resources have gained nowadays, not only for the national interest of a State, but also at both a regional and a worldwide geopolitical extent. Thus, this study focuses in South America to examine the existing policies mostly those by the Union of South-American Nations that are intended to safeguard and protect the plentiful resources in these countries from the potential extraction considering the lack of actors coming from outside the region. In this vein, the need to set out and develop defense policies for the natural resources is prioritized by each country in the region and also through jointly-managed strategies</p>
