This article provides a comparative analysis of the norcoefficient on two different poverty lines: affordance and wealth. This coefficient allows observing the proportion of food spending as compared to other goods and the total available expenditures. Thus, it provides obtained from the National Income and Expenditure Survey to Mexican Households (ENIGH) 2016. The work is quite relevant since in the scholarly literature available, there is not any analysis endeavor like this one addressing the poverty in Mexico and based on this method. The main results showed that opposed to facts indicated by the theory and literature review about a better performance in the creation and distribution of wealth in the northern border there is little difference between these two borders regarding the poverty line. However, the poverty line of wealth shows a strong difference. It is concluded that the access to non-food goods like the housing, clothes and transport is a determining factor for the differentiated poverty in the study regions
