The article addresses issues related to death and the challenges encountered by the nursing team. Death is a biological event that ends a life, it is one of the events that most cause questions in the history of man. The research aimed to identify the challenges faced by the nursing team in the face of death, assessing whether these professionals are prepared for such situations. Cross-sectional quantitative descriptive study, using for data collection, carried out through a questionnaire applied to the nursing staff of a hospital in Brasilia located in DF. The data showed that although 77.5% do not have provision of training or strategies for the team, 72.5% feel prepared in the face of death, however the biggest challenge they encounter is to deal with the family's suffering, with 67 , 5%, and this leads to a feeling of great sadness with 70%. The results point professionals in psychological and emotional unpreparedness. It concludes the need for training individually and collectively.
