Currently, more than half of the new infections by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) affect young people aged 15-24 years. Data from the Ministry of Health show that more than 70% of cases of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) correspond to individuals between 20 and 39 years of age, and a considerable portion contracted the virus during adolescence. Objective: To identify the increase in the incidence of HIV among young people and the adherence of pre- exposure prophylaxis (PREP) as an intervention. Methodology: Integrative research, carried out among articles published in the years 2015 to 2019. Results: The study showed that 2017 was the most published year, making a total of 60%. The articles surveyed have shown that PrEP is a pre-exposure prevention medicalization that consists of antiretroviral (ARV) use that prevents HIV from spreading and spreading throughout the body. PrEP does not prevent other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and therefore should be combined with other forms of prevention. It has been available as an HIV prevention strategy since 2017 in Brazil. Conclusion: Studies have shown that young people have early sexual initiation, risky behavior, and insufficient knowledge about preventive methods to promote self-perception about the risks of sexually transmitted infections. PrEP is a medication recently introduced in Brazil, therefore, little known among the young population, especially since it is destined for a target audience.
