This article proposes a method for the estimation of individual plant volume in potato crop fields from images obtained using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). Unlike conventional methods, which require significant fieldwork and human effort, the approach to the detection of morphological characteristics and the calculation of automatic structural attributes is neither expensive nor time-consuming. The main components of the method are: (i) image acquisition from UAV, (ii) detection of potato plants and (iii) calculation of the area and volume of individual potato plants. Results show that the proposed method allows accurate detection as good as the methods based on field sampling.
