P.172: Application of the national audit program of the donation and transplant network (PNA) to the health providing institutions (IPS) generating organ and tissue donors for transplant purposes in Bucaramanga and its metropolitan area in 2018.
Background: Organ transplantation is a therapeutic alternative for patients with terminal pathologies. The reality is that the waiting lists to receive anatomical components will continue to increase; if the number of donations cannot be increased. The objective of this study is to apply the National Audit Program developed by the National Donation and Transplant Network to the generating IPS in Bucaramanga, Colombia; in order to develop an improvement plan. Methods: Quasi-experimental exploratory research study in nine health institutions of third and fourth level generators of potential organ and tissue donors; that have an intensive care unit and a Neuroscience service (Neurology or Neurosurgery). Five variables were evaluated; documentary development and management, administration of indicators, notification process of alert notification of potential donors, training in operational management of donation and promotion of organ donation, through two audits. The first one showed the current situation and allowed the delivery of the improvement plan and the second audit verified the implementation of the same. Results: Strategies like these; they generate positive impact; evidencing an increase of 18.5% in the process of notification of potential organ and tissue donors and 116% in donation and rescue of anatomical components. Conclusions: Documentary development and management; initially it was evidenced in 46.3% of the institutions; later there was an improvement of 91.3%. The management, reporting and analysis of indicators showed an improvement from 22.5% to 54.5%. The training of health personnel in Operational Management to the donation increased from 13% to 54%. The development of promotional activities to the donation of organs and tissues of 20%, increase to 71%. The donation process of anatomical components must be part of the quality system of hospital procedures, since they represent a primary instrument for the increase in the donation rate.
