The ownership succession has been gaining relevance in the area of family business because this process directly affects their continuity within the same family. This quantitative study aims to identify the factors that most influence the founder during the selection of mechanisms for the succession of the ownership of his family business in the city of Cali. Although no significant influences of the factors were identified, the study recognized that the Culture factor, defined as the presence of family traps or bad practices of these organizations, is present in all companies in the sample. Finally some recommendations are provided.
