This paper addresses the argumentative link that is established in the doctor-patient relationship and elaborates an analysis with the purpose of evaluating the way in which the argument that appeals to the authority or argument ad verecundiam can lead to undesirable medical practices when it is incurred a false authority. In support of these claims, the text presents two moments, on the one hand, it exposes the characteristics of the argument ad verecudiam and its place in the medical environment; and on the other hand, elucidates the argumentative criteria by which the doctor-patient relationship is affected, which entails value consequences on the medical authority.
