According to the most recent Economic World Forum (Medellin, 2016), the current model of development for Latin America is untenable for the region if we think on three key imbalances: the increase of social inequality, the problems of economic recession and the environmental deterioration, principally for the way of exploitation of the resources, the high consumption of pollutants and the current levels of production and consumption. In the same sense, ECLAC/ CEPAL raises that one of the solutions is to modify the way of doing things in order to achieve changes in the productive structure and to increase the participation of the intensive sectors in innovation. The Commissions repeats about the environmental topic, a major work of public and private investment in the design of the least pollutant guidelines, based in learning and innovation. The social innovation and socio- technological innovation turn into a key inside the productive chain and, in case of the handcrafted mining industry on a small scale, into an opportunity for the transformation of current manners of exploitation. The experiences in Africa and in Asia in process topics of training and mining cooperation on a small scale can be used as an example as what it is possible to do and not to do, in the specific Colombian context. This article seeks to do a reflection of the methodologies of social innovation related to processes of green mining and free mercury mining industry, in developments on a small scale from the DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF PROTOTYPE TO LABORATORY SCALE OF ZERO MERCURY GOLDEN PROCESSING PLANT FOR REMEDIOS AND PUERTO BERRIO, IN ANTIOQUIA, as a view of social innovation and educative intervention to training of new schemes of mining small-scale work.
