Describing Bogotá through its landscape allows us to construct a series of images that highlight features, landmarks, and distinctive elements that are highly recognizable and part of its identity. However, there are also microlandscapes —either hidden or negatively stereotyped— that are undervalued. The Landscape Observatory (which is a Fundación Cerros de Bogotá initiative) started a debate about the traditional valuation of landscape in the city and its region. This interdisciplinary group promotes thought on contemporary ways of contemplating space and the inclusion of methodologies that allow the landscape of Bogotá to be understood in a participatory fashion. It then uses these as inputs for planning strategies.
