The article deals with a technical-economic study to establish the viability of taking advantage of solar energy in the main USTA Bucaramanga campus comparing deployment costs for 2011 and 2018 at the light of recent changes in regulatory policies. The cost for its implementation and use based on an estimated consumption is analyzed. The comparison of power consumption against the costs of implementing a system based on photovoltaic panels showed that the initial cost has lowered over the years reducing the equilibrium point. In this case, this is true if all the available for power generation area is used regardless if the power is consumed on site or sell back to the electric company.
