The present article proposes a relay simulation test bench to reduce the steel manufacturer protection system misoperation. The focus of this article is the protection coordination sensitivity, due to variable consumption currents and inadequate protection relay settings/logic. Particularly, the identification of sensitive areas that may suffer from cascade tripping or a hidden fault is shown. An automation coordination process is performed following the identification of the sensitive area, so as to reduce the risk of misoperation trip.
