The Spanish Navy's maintenance strategy for systems, ships and platforms has focused on corrective maintenance and on following the manufacturer's recommendations. This way of understanding maintenance is not applicable to modern and complex systems, as it causes numerous and significant failures; this has led the Spanish Navy to reconsider the maintenance methodology used, which has led to the consideration of reliability-based maintenance (RCM) as a solution.
