In this article, three peruvian movies that implicitly deal with political violence areexamined (Pishtaco, Qarqacha y El misterio del Kharisiri) depict different situations inwhich a mythical creature is resemanticized in the Peruvian internal conflict (1980-2000) and in violence, generally, as a radical otherness. Hence, I want to examinehow postmemory mechanisms about the cultural and political violence in AndeanAyacucho are proposed in specific Andean myths, which are not limited to a recenttraumatic event, but can be dated back to colonial times. Re-appropriation of thesemyths serves as a mechanism to produce narratives of these traumatic events, and thusconstruct memory from a marginal perspective.
