Fast Three-dimensional Inversion of Logging While Drilling and Induction Logging Data

Acceso Cerrado

Abstract:

Summary Logging While Drilling and Induction Logging techniques are commonly used to infer important information about a reservoir. Recent advances in electromagnetic processing and inversion methods now allow for this data to be inverted and interpreted in three-dimensions, in real time. Working in three-dimensions provides more accurate results in complicated geologic settings than those produced with traditional lower dimensional methods. In this work, we present a framework for the modeling and inversion of such data, that is geared towards real time inversion. We describe and demonstrate the techniques that have made the rapid solution of these problems possible, including a mesh decoupling process and new data assimilation techniques. We show that it is possible to produce 3D results in real time, fast enough to aid in the control of the drilling process.
