The article aims to quantify the gender gaps in Colombia at the departmental level and describe their behavior through the construction of a gender gap index, giving an account of their behavior for the period between 2008 and 2014. We used the methodology proposed by the World Economic Forum. The Global Gender Gap Index was constructed for Colombia at departmental level for the years 2008-2014 using four sub-indices: Economic Participation, Educational Achievement, Health and Political Empowerment. We found that gender inequality has increased for Colombia. Educational attainment is the sub-index in which the gap is smaller, while political empowerment is the sub-index that reflects the greatest gap.
