The aim of this article is showing the chronological line of nursing, in order to present its evolutionary trajectory. It was marked by a dark age, characterized by rejection, discrimination and contempt, as well as allowing untrained people, including people without any morality, such as prostitutes, prisoner, criminals or people in total misery, who were responsible for doing this type of work. In spite of all the incidents, these were overcome and nursing became a scientific and recognized profession. The history of nursing is divided into four stages, in which it stands out: The primitive stage, called the domestic stage, the vocational stage, was totally and absolutely dominated by religion, and cares revolved around the beliefs in this were handled. Technical stage, its main objective was to fight against the disease to seek health. The last stage is called Professional because nursing finally was consolidates as a discipline. The research was done through the review and analysis of documents and the positions of the authors of different theories that sustain and relate how the work of nursing develops over time.
