This article aims to describe and analyze the living conditions and socio-familiar environments of old and elderly. By analyzing wills and census data from Los Andes and Valparaíso in the second half of the 19th century, I aim to identify the subsistence strategies of women in their old age. I propose that, despite decline in their physical abilities, elderly and old women continued to play an active role within their domestic communities or residence groups.
