The present article is the result of the research work of the Multidisciplinary Seminar on Press Studies, Facultad de Estudios Superiores Acatlán, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and aims to provide a general view of the important role of the press in the politics of XIX century, specially during the Second Mexican Empire. The analysis of the journal El Diario del Imperio allows to understand the mexican politic structure after de French Intervention and the imposition of a prince of the House of Habsburg on the mexican throne. Likewise, is a resource to know the public opinion of the time.
