The objective of this study was to assess by hydroacoustics the bathymetric characteristics in shallow and deep waters in Magdalena region, Colombian Caribbean Sea. The acoustic survey was carried out onboard in a small vessel at which a scientific echosounder Biosonics DTX with a 38 kHz transducer. The depth ranged between 8.54 and 876.82 m (mean 336.19 ±217.46 m). Five zones were identified according to bathymetric characteristics. 1) Palermo-El Torno swamp; 2) Animas Bank; 3) Aguja Canyon off Santa Marta; 4) Tayrona Canyons is the deepest zone; and 5) Buritaca.
