Resumen: Este articulo es una aproximacion teorica y metodologica al estudio de las revoluciones en america Latina durante el siglo XX. Parte de la consideracion de que toda la revolucion como experiencia historica concreta, aspira a llegar a una autopia (entendida como construccion ideal), pero que ese desarrollo particular de los pueblos conduce al establecimiento de construcciones sociales que se alejan de las ideas iniciales propuestas por las revoluciones. La historia de Latinoamerica muestra que hay particularidades muy especiales que hacen dificil relacionar los procesos regionales con los que se dieroon en Europa en los ultimos siglos y que han servido de marco de interpretacion. Elementos como la estructura politica, economica y social heredada de Espana, la consolidacion de los poderes locales alrededor de los caudillos, una vinculacion al mercado mundial mediada por nuevas potencias como Inglaterra y el fortalecimiento de clases politicas que se agrupan alrededor de un Estado oligarquico, son elementos fundamentales para entender las experiencias revolucionarias. Palabras clave: revolucion, utopia, topia, revolucion por arriba, revolucion por abajo, caudillismo, clientelismo, oligarquia e independencia. ********************************************************* An approach to Latin american revolutions during the XX century Abstract: This article is a theoretical and methodological approach to the study of Latin American revolutions during the XX century. It begins with the idea that any revolutions, as a concrte historical experience, aims towards establishing a utopia (in the sense of ideological coonstruction). Nevertheless, these developments lead to the establisment of social constructions which differ from the inical ideas proposed by these revolutions. The history of Latin America shows the presence of particular circumstances wich make it difficult to relate these regional processes to those that ocurred in Europe during the last centuries, and which have been used as models for interpretation. Elements such as: the political, economic and social structure inherited from Spain, the consolidation of local powers around caudillos, the entry of Latin America into the World market mediated by new powers such as England, and the strengthening of political classes grouped around oligarchic states, are fundamental elements that must be taken into account in order to understand tevolutionary experiences in Latin America.
