Microgrids could be viable solutions to provide electricity to isolated communities, where a connection to the transmission network is economically unfeasible. Indigenous towns called Rancherías in La Guajira, Colombia's northern region, represent perfect examples of such remote communities. The involvement of those who receive microgrids benefits is paramount, because the solution needs to work with little intervention from the outside world. In this paper, an educational tool is conceived with the objective of being a first approximation to the most relevant microgrid concepts. Furthermore, advances in the real social SCADA, the interface to transmit security and operation information to the community, are presented.
