The article's principal objective is to analyze the Colombian regulation standards that relates to the specifications needed to connect new energy sources to the utility grid. More specifically, it focuses on the performance requirements of the electrical system to incorporate renewable energy sources. Furthermore, it includes the review of some international standards that evaluates the performance of the electrical grid in order to provide suitable access for renewable energy sources. The papers main contribution is to propose substantial regulatory changes for the reviewed Colombian standards of the electrical field. Approaching those features that assess the proper conditions of the electrical system to integrate energy sources of renewable type. Finally, it attempts to identify the potential of the renewable projects that might have the biggest impact on the Regional Power Transmission System. Considering as priority, those projects based on photovoltaic energy sources, which represent a major effect on the National Electrical Power System.
