This article is part of a research with a mixed approach, from the qualitative approach with methods of ethnomethodology and theory based on the deductive rationalist, explanatory level, with support in a field research, quantitative nature, confirmatory factorial analysis technique. The objective of the proposal was to identify factors that influence the implementation of academic and research counseling in the promotion of coexistence, aimed at university students and to identify perceptions of teachers from the perspective of research. The population consists of 25 teachers with doctorates in the Department of Norte de Santander and executives of institutions of higher education. The interview, survey and documentary analysis were used as instruments. Results: Economic, motivational, psychological and political factor and academic load affect the conciliation, empathy, research and academic advisory of professionals with doctorate in universities. Conclusion: Academic and research counseling improves social interaction, coexistence, research training of the academic community, provides opportunities for research development of professionals with doctorates.
