ABSTRACT Introduction: The literature reports effects on the presence or absence of physical activity, associated with non-transmissible chronic diseases, especially those associated with the cardiovascular system. The UPTC is not foreign to this situation, and requires studies that unveil this problematic that is increasing at global level. Objective: To identify possible associations between physical activity and some cardiovascular risk factors. Materials and methods: Analytical prevalence design for 137 employees aged 30 and 65, stratified random sample. A survey of cardiovascular risk factors, anthropometric measures and venous blood samples was applied. The analysis included simple and multiple linear regression. Results. The study presents a cardiovascular risk situation when physical activity is insufficient. UPTC employees present cardiovascular risk due to high triglyceride, overweight, low HDL and high total cholesterol levels. Some workers have metabolic syndrome and for others, it will be in the future. Conclusions: We found an association between some cardiovascular risk factors and the insufficient practice of physical activity; And probably eating habits. Further studies are needed in other populations and Interinstitutional participation that impacts the population of this region of the country. Key words: Physical activity, cardiovascular risk factors, employees.
