Abstract:

Climate change has been associated with fodder production which alter dry matter intake and milk quality. In order to evaluate the effect of lactation and seasons on the total dry matter intake (TDMI) in Holstein cattle fed with kikuyu (Cenchrus clandestinus) from Antioquia. Three cows by each third located in five dairy farms were taken during a rainfall season and a dry season in 2014 (n=90 cattle). To estimate f dry matter intake in meadow (CDMM) chromium oxide was used as an external marker and indigestible dry matter as an internal marker. Measurement dry matter intake of feeding supplements (CDMFS) was performed from the feeders during milking routines. Data were analyzed in a completely randomized design in a 3 x 2 factorial by using SAS statistical program. In general, during the third of lactation TDMI and CDMM were higher than CDMFS remined higher only in raining season. CDMM, as percentage of TDMI increased with the lactation during the third period (p<0.01) and higher on dry season (p<0.01).
