This article focuses on the literary production of Cuban writer José Manuel Prieto (1962), with a particular emphasis on Rex (2007), the third novel of his "Russian trilogy". In Rex , Prieto develops a narrative that problematizes the notion of identity, both in its thematic content and in Prieto's unique writing style. Finally, I emphasize that Prieto, in the construction of his complex machinery of literary and vital de-specification, establishes a connection with certain areas of the Argentine narrative.
